February 8th ACT
The late registration deadline for the February 8th ACT is this Friday, January 17th. Register online at www.actstudent.org. The cost is $52 plus a $30 late fee. Juniors and seniors on free/reduced lunch may request a fee waiver from the guidance office to cover both fees.
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., there is no school on Monday, January 20th.
If you are planning on applying for GSE, the deadline is Monday (Jan 20th). This is open to all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.
Volunteers are needed to provide childcare at an event sponsored by Preschool-Early Headstart on Jan 20th. Contact Megan Black @ 270.653.4923 ASAP if you are interested in getting community service hours.
The Homecoming election is underway in the library. Students in grades 9-12 may vote any time (with teacher permission). Voting will cease with the 3:00 bell on Thursday, January 23rd.
The last day to order yearbooks is January 24th.
Spring sports picture day will be February 5th.
Please turn in future plans to Riley Barber or Madalyn Mathis by February 6th.
Washington Youth Tour
Any junior interested in attending the Washington Youth Tour needs to submit their 900 word short story to the guidance office by no later than February 7th. For information about this year's short story topic or the Washington Youth Tour, visit the guidance office.
Any junior with a Composite ACT score of 25 and a 3.5 or higher GPA can apply for the Commonwealth Honors Academy. The academy will be held June 6th-June 27th at MSU. Upon completion of the academy, students will receive six hours of honors-level university studies credit and be awarded a $2,000 renewable housing scholarship to attend MSU. Help Raise Your ACT Score
Looking for ways to improve your ACT score? Try out ACT Academy on ACT’s website - it’s free. Also, information about a couple of ACT Prep Workshops in the McCracken & Graves County areas is available in the guidance office. There is a cost associated with the workshops. We have had a couple of students benefit from attend these workshops. Finally, in addition to these options and John Baylor, we also have access to online ACT prep modules and practice tests through Kentucky Virtual Library. Field Trip Policy
Reminder: Please know that if on the Friday before a field trip, any student with an F in any class will be ineligible for the trip.
Senior Spotlight forms and photos should be returned to Mrs. Stairs or Mrs. Young as soon as possible. If you do not return a photo, we will use your formal Senior yearbook photo.
