Hickman County Schools News Article

HCES Site-Based elections

Dear Parents:

In Kentucky, each school has a site-based decision-making council composed of the principal, elected teachers, and elected parents; this group makes many of the most important decisions about how their school will work.  The council is a wonderful chance to learn about our school, work closely with teachers and principal, and help make our school even more successful than it is now.  The parent members of the council are elected by parents.  They receive training and will serve from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.  To help with questions you may refer to http://education.ky.gov/districts/sbdm/pages/sbdmstatreg.aspx.

Due to the COVID-19, all voting will  be conducted via the HCES PTO email at [email protected].  Parent voting will be conducted through May 8 at 3 p.m.

If you will have a child enrolled at Hickman County Elementary School next year, you are eligible to vote in the election.  (This includes parents, step-parents, and foster parents.  Legal guardians are also eligible to vote if the child lives in their homes.)  I urge every parent to participate in this important decision about the future of our children’s school.

Results will be announced (and a run-off election will be scheduled if necessary) on May 11, 2020 in the school office and via email.

Thank you for your interest in our school, and please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Tiffany Ray

Nominees:  Ashley Workman and Kristin Johnson

Dear HCES Parents,

The SBDM Council is the backbone behind decisions made at school. I strongly believe that I would be a good parent representative for the Hickman County Elementary Site Base Council. I am very involved in the Hickman County School System; I have been the PTO co-chair for the last six years and have been a parent site base member for the last 5 years. These experiences have given me an in-depth look at what our students are experiencing and what they may be in need of. I have also been greatly involved in various events/committees throughout the community. My involvement within the community and the schools has allowed me to become acquainted with various parents, teachers and community members. I believe that I am a very approachable person and would consider it a privilege to be your “voice” as a parent in our school system. PLEASE CALL ME FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT MYSELF, OR QUESTIONS/CONCERNS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE ADDRESSED IN THE SCHOOL 1-731-695-5945! Thank you for your vote!

Sincerely,

Ashley Workman

My name is Kristen Johnson. I am the supervisor for Murray Head Start - Hickman County Early Head Start Center. I have a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development. I have three children in the Hickman County School system. I am a parent that enjoys being involved in what my children are a part of. Education is important to me and is a particularly important part of all our children’s futures. I have been a member of the SBDM school council for the past five years, and I really enjoy being a part of the decisions that are being made concerning the future of our children. I love being on the council because it gives me the opportunity to share in the important decisions that are going to affect the children and families that are a part of this school system. All children are important, and I want to continue to have the opportunity to share in the decision-making process of our school system.
